Your Guide to Software Selection

Workday Competitors and Alternatives

Workday Human Capital Management is one of the consistently most well-reviewed human resource software on the market. It appears on most top 10 lists (including our Leaderboard) and has satisfied a wealth of customers. But if you’re a HR software buyer, you may find that Workday isn’t the best vendor for your company. This shouldn’t come as a shock — no vendor is the right choice for every company.

But if you know that Workday HCM is one of the best out there, you’ll probably want to check out some Workday competitors that are also at the top of the market. Taken directly from our Leaderboard, these five vendors are all at the top of the market, and would be a good choice for any company — if they meet the requirements, of course.

Top 5 Workday Competitors

SAP SuccessFactors

SAP’s SuccessFactors HCM suite, built for small and medium-sized businesses, doesn’t just handle HR tasks, but talent management tasks as well. On the HR side, it handles your basic functions such as payroll and time/attendance management. It also manages onboarding, which helps your new hires hit the ground running and integrate themselves easily into your company.

The talent management features are what elevate SAP’s HR solution to a market leader. The system provides features for managing recruiting, learning/development and performance/compensation. In addition, possibly the most advanced capability of SuccessFactors is the workforce planning feature. This helps you identify your top talent so you can focus on developing and retaining them. Workforce planning even helps you forecast future needs so you can plan accordingly.

Epicor HCM

The Epicor HCM solution is one of the most flexible on the market. One of the ways it does so is by providing self-service HR for both employees and candidates. This lets employees check their benefits, time off, etc., while allowing candidates to view their application status. Self-service capabilities have become extremely useful, as they help improve communication and keep employees engaged.

Epicor is also highly flexible with deployment options, as they can provide cloud-based, hosted and on-premise software. By offering multiple deployment options, the system can be used by pretty much any company. Whether they have to use on-premise software to meet compliance or they need a cloud solution so they can scale, Epicor can fit both needs.

Similarly to SAP SuccessFactors, Epicor also comes with some talent management features, including recruiting and performance.

Infor CloudSuite HCM

As the name suggests, Infor’s HCM software is an exclusively cloud-based solution. The solution comes with plenty of HR and talent management capabilities such as benefits, time management and onboarding. In addition, you can add on bundles for payroll, workforce management and analytics.

Advanced talent management features are also available with Infor, including performance management, learning/development, succession planning and goal setting. All of these features help plan your HR strategies for long-term growth, not just your short-term needs.

The analytics bundle in particular is a differentiator, as it provides BI capabilities without having to switch applications. Infor’s HCM analytics can find insights into aspects such as quality measures, labor productivity and — possibly the most useful — staffing effectiveness.

Oracle HCM Cloud Suite

Oracle, much like Infor, is another major software company that provides exclusively cloud-based HR applications. Oracle’s HCM Cloud is meant mostly for large companies with locations across the globe. Despite focusing on large, global enterprises, however, the suite can still be localized. For example, it supports local compliance needs in several countries.

Along with standard HR software features, Oracle provides many of the same robust talent management features as SAP. For example, both Oracle and SAP offer workforce planning, recruiting, learning and performance.

The Oracle Work Life Solutions module sets the HCM Cloud suite apart. The module is designed to increase productivity and employee engagement by integrating your employees’ work and personal lives. It does so by setting up competitions and dashboards for wellness and reputation. Oracle is the only enterprise software that includes a work-life module.

Dayforce HCM

Dayforce HCM, like most of the other Workday competitors on this list, offers cloud-based software. In Dayforce’s case, this is an advantage that provides access to real-time data. By being deployed on the cloud, HCM can more easily collect data and integrate with other sources in order to display real-time data at a moment’s notice. Consistently providing up-to-date information is key for organizations that need to make decisions quickly, especially in situations where high-level executive positions need to be filled.

Like most of the other systems on this list, Dayforce offers both HR and talent management features. Payroll, benefits, onboarding and performance management are among the system’s most popular capabilities. The use of predictive analytics helps your HR team plan for the future, and dashboards make the interface intuitive and easy to use.

Finding Your Best-Fit HCM Software

Although these five systems are the biggest Workday competitors on the HR software market, it’s still possible that none of these will be best for your business. This article is meant to be a starting point for vendor evaluation, providing you with some initial vendors to take a look at. But before deciding on a vendor, make sure that they fulfill all of your most important requirements, so your company can optimize all of your HR processes.
